Praising Shiva
It is not a hard task to praise Shiva.
One can easily find an abundance of laudable qualities about His Auspiciousness. There is, however, one specific thing about Shiva which makes Him extremely dear to the writer…
Shiva is transcendent. While He may take a step into the human stream and society, by activities like wearing clothes or taking a hot wife, He also keeps another foot outside of society, mingling with spirits and dancing in cremation grounds. He limits Himself into a pattern and form so that an individual born in a society can relate to Him. With this act of kindness, He forms a bridge and creates a path for the devotee, following which it becomes possible to escape the clutches of the social matrix.
Shiva’s imagery is not just an elaborate motif; it is more like psychic engineering. Adopting His template can create a personality that unravels itself while deconstructing the Ego. Following His example can free one from following and guide one to doing one’s own will. Devotion to Shiva will free you even from devotion!
Hara Hara Mahadev!
